About two weeks ago I started a project over on Instagram - I am painting a pattern a day and posting it under the hashtag #100DaysofPaintedPatterns! Each week is a new color palette as well. This idea is from the The 100 Day Project, which was started earlier this year and ended over the summer, with people choosing to do projects from 100 days of photos to writing to meeting new people. I found a few of my favorite visual artists to follow on Instagram through that project, and decided it was time for me to take that energy and do it myself. It's been an incredibly revitalizing process so far, and helped me get out of somewhat of a creative slump with personal work. I knew I wanted to make a new collection of pattern designs, but I was having trouble feeling overwhelmed with where to start and wanting them to be perfect right away. This way, doing it every day forces me to not overthink it and just create. Using painting, primarily watercolor, also allows me to be free and expressive. I love how the quicker I make the paint strokes, the more natural it looks and feels.
I was also incredibly honored when Grace Bonney of Design Sponge shared one of my patterns on her feed. Such a great day!
