I've always been drawn to patterns, usually when they are combined with some sort of textile item like a cozy woven blanket or a silk scarf. I want to get better at designing my own patterns and also simply love doing it, so I decided to start a weekly series called Pattern Play! It's meant to be an experimental project in which I can try various techniques and styles without worrying too much about the final product.
Each week I will create an original pattern using one of these methods: created off the computer (then scanned in), created completely using the computer, or a combination of both. I'm going to commit to a weekly pattern for 12 weeks for now, and see how it goes! You also may see some mood board inspiration posts for them here and there.
For week 1, I used watercolor to create painterly blue dots and scanned them in. I tweaked the hue a bit in Photoshop to give it more of an indigo blue color which I am really loving right now; something about it is so calming. I'd love to try this DIY Shibori dyeing technique one day to get beautiful varying shades of blue onto fabric.
